Harry Potter Party Details:
This is what Jennifer said about planning the party- “For my son’s 7th birthday he wanted something Harry Potter… well what child would not want to visit Hogwarts right?!?! So that is what we decided to do!
Each child received an acceptance letter to a special birthday celebration to Hogwarts School via Owl Post. Inside the envelopes was their letter with the date and time, Hogwarts Express Ticket, and a list of all necessary books and equipment they would need. When kids first arrived to the party we went shopping at Diagon Alley to get all our school supplies! Some of the stores we had set up in front of our house was Gringotts Bank, Madame Malkins, Flourish & Blotts, Ollivanders, Pottage’s Cauldron Shop, and more.
Once the kids had all their school supplies, they passed through Platform 9 3/4 and into Hogwarts. I created the platform by hanging brick patterned paper with a slit cut in it so they could walk through. The Platform was also decorated with trunks filled with various items from the movies/books that would be useful during a year at Hogwarts. When the kids all were inside it was time for them to be sorted into their houses.
To sort the kids we used cell phones. I called my hubby and put my phone on speaker and shoved it in the hat. When I placed the hat on each child’s head he could hear and respond to what the kids were saying and then would shout out what house they are to belong to. They then got a coordinating tie and badge.
After the sorting ceremony we had some quick little lessons on Potions, Herbology, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, etc. These were such a blast! The kids especially enjoyed potions and Divintaion! Once the classes were all done we headed into the Great Hall for a feast (cake and ice cream). The cake was a cute little wizarding owl sitting upon books. While the kids ate they received their O.W.L. results.
Since all the kids passed their exams they were able to pick up their party favor – a box of Weasley’s Wonderous Wands (sparklers) – from Filch’s Confiscated Goods and treated to a game of Quidditch – muggle style! Everyone wanted to be Seekers, so we had to rotate positions often :)
We ended the party with a trip to Hogsmeade for some Butterbeer from The Three Broomsticks, and to Honeydukes for a variety of treats from chocolate frogs and Peppermint Toads to Acid Pops and Sugar Quills.”
