Japanese Cherry Blossom 1st Birthday Dol
Japanese Cherry Blossom 1st Birthday Dol Party Details:
This is what Chrystal shared about the party- “When your client wants to plan and throw a cherry blossom themed 1st birthday (dohl), for their little girl, it’s only fitting especially when her name is Hanami. Her name means “flower” and “truth,” and we hope that she’ll be a flower that bears truth as she grows up. So with the theme in mind, we chose to work with cherry blossom colors such as pink, white, gold, and brown.
The first thing we focused on was the invitations. We wanted to incorporate the theme and colors into the invitations for the guests. We contacted Sarah Ku from Art by Sarah Ku and asked if she could create a cherry blossom watercolor print for us. She absolutely nailed it! The cherry blossom watercolor print became our background for the dessert signs and the doljabi signs. The print really helped tie everything together.
The second thing we focused on was the backdrop for the head table. We wanted to really incorporate cherry blossoms to the theme so we made paper flower cherry blossoms. Each flower stem has about 7-8 handmade paper flowers on them. We also wanted to add color to the table so we incorporated some fruit and bean towers. In Korean culture, the bean towers (go-im) are very popular for decorations. One usually will say the child’s name and the other will represent the animal of the year the baby was born.
Guests were welcomed at the sign in table where they got to participate in a Korean first birthday tradition of the doljabi. Guests were asked to guess what item the child would choose, which often symbolized the child’s future career. They wrote their name on white paper flowers and were asked to place their guesses in clear pots. We also wanted to add a personal bible verse (John 8:32) that related to the meaning of Hanami’s name. The beautiful calligraphy was done by Skye Cho.
Our client’s mother-in-law is a retired florist so she made all the beautiful arrangements. We loved the bright pink colors and it popped against the white table linens. We wanted this event to feel more like a kids’ event so we incorporated some colorful balloons on the guest tables.
We also wanted to incorporate the theme and colors when it came to the dessert. We ordered a cherry blossom design cake from Merely Sweets and ordered custom mini desserts from ByJennaSea. Jennifer did such a great job incorporating white and pink colors into the desserts and we absolutely loved the cherry blossom shaped macarons! They were also very delicious!
When it was time for Hanami to pick her doljabi item, she changed into a traditional Korean outfit called the hanbok. This hanbok was provided by JazzBerryMom and don’t you just love the colors? Hanami ended up choosing the xylophone which signifies that someday, maybe she will become a musician! Alissa Noelle did an amazing job capturing all the lovely colors and details of this event!”
