Airplane Birthday Party
Airplane Party Details:
This is what Belle shared about the party- “I had the pleasure of planning and decorating a sweet little boy’s first birthday! His mom chose the theme: AIRPLANES! She sent me three pictures of what she had in mind. Ultimately, I came up with a kid-friendly airplane design in bright colors. My goal was to create something that would be appealing to the younger kids. Now that the theme was decided and I had the concept down, it was onto developing my ideas and turning them into fun decorations!
My décor consisted of handmade signs, a backdrop made with various types of streamers, homemade and personally frosted sugar cookies and rice krispies, gift boxes for the kids to take home, and special décor for the birthday boy’s highchair. It was basically a complete transformation of the sunroom. I also included several personal touches to the table décor and some of the treats.
My favorite décor piece from the party (and in my opinion the best single concept) was the cupcake toppers I made. I drew and cut out vintage airplane hats and goggles, and glued the separate pieces together onto the paper straw. I was thrilled with the result and couldn’t help but send a little preview to his mom. Her response, “OMG soooo adorable! I love it!” My heart swelled!
I baked sugar cookies for the party (recipe from Sweet Sugarbelle), and used royal icing to decorate them. This recipe is my undisputed favorite; and the cookies were both delicious and fun with bright colors that complimented the décor.
For the party favor gable boxes (boxes from PaperMart.com), I designed and created labels. I laminated the luggage tags to give it a pop. I was finally able to justify my laminator purchase by finally using it! (yay) I got it for a great deal on Amazon, but unfortunately it had been sitting in the basement collecting dust…until now. Inside the box I put in airplane tattoos, a printout of an airplane to be folded Tim’s Printables, pilot rubber duckies, and a craft airplane that you can put together and design on your own. I got most of the favors from Amazon.
I kept the cost down by focusing on handmade and DIY decorations. I had a blast coming up with the décor for the party, and seeing the parent’s faces. They were truly blown away; overall, it was a big hit with the family and guests alike.”
