It’s hard to imagine, but summer is about at its halfway point! I was at the store the other day and there are rows of school supplies already. I have to admit, those sharp pencils, rainbows of crayons, and piles of clean, crisp paper make me melt inside. What do you think it is that makes me feel this way? I was pondering my obsession as I stood in the checkout line surveying the piles of notebooks, stacks of colored pencils, scissors, erasers, markers, and glue sticks perched precariously in my cart.
Then, it dawned on me. It’s all about starting fresh. A new beginning. As human beings, we long for the opportunity to “start anew”. The beginning of a new school year signals this fresh start with blank sheets of paper and sharp pencils.
Oh, and don’t forget the glue. If you are like me, any stash of glue you might have had has long been nabbed for slime-making pursuits.
Back to School Must-Have’s
Just like it’s imperative to snag some back to school supplies, it’s always fun to plan your new wardrobe for the upcoming school year. The first thing you want to have is a statement piece. Something that describes who you are. As I was thinking about what I would do if I were going back to school, my mind recalled the coolest jean jacket that my big sister had when we were in school. I wanted one so bad, but my mom wouldn’t let me “copy” my sister, and let’s face it, she probably would have killed me if I had tried.
But, I am my own person now, and 80’s fashion is making a comeback, so jean jacket here I come!!
DIY Embellished Jean Jacket
I found everything I needed to recreate the jacket at Michaels. In fact, it was even easier because, if I recall correctly, my sister had to spend hours at the sewing machine when she made hers. I found easy iron-on patches at Michaels. I headed home and in minutes had a statement piece that would be a perfect start to any school year!
And, if the jacket isn’t your style, you’ll find inspiration to create something that is, because…from crystals to pom poms to tassels & patches, Michaels has everything you need to bling out Back To School!
