You had me at piles of mini marshmallows. Who can resist the allure of a mug of hot cocoa, especially if that mug is piled high with mini marshmallows and small delicious bits of candy cane?! This is the first in my series of hot chocolate recipes from a family get-together we had last weekend.
It was so fun to have so many different options to dress up the winter staple of hot cocoa. I started with my Crockpot Hot Chocolate Recipe here, which made the party SO easy because the good stuff was just simmering away, adding a perfect chocolatey smell to our home as the guests arrived. Next, I added this minty cocoa goodness:
Easy Peppermint Hot Chocolate Recipe
Yields 6 servings
2 cups half and half
2 cups milk
1 cup chocolate chips
1 1/2 teaspoons peppermint extract
Pour milk, half and half, and chocolate chips in a large saucepan and cook on medium heat until chocolate chips are melted.
Add peppermint extract and stir. Add more peppermint extract if a stronger flavor is desired.
Pour hot chocolate into mugs and garnish with mini marshmallows, crushed peppermint candy, and mini candy canes.
