Movie Theatre Party Details:
This is what Heather said about planning/styling the party- “When my daughter said she wanted a movie theater party, I felt a little defeated. It had seemed like there wouldn’t be much to do with that theme. Movie, popcorn… what else is there? Well, she taught me a lesson because there was a lot more she had in mind!
We have a theater room in our basement and so it seemed natural to plan the space so that it was as if the guests were entering a real movie theater. We did have a large M and M character greet our guests at the front door as they made their way downstairs. We made gold stanchions out of two stair balusters and Styrofoam balls. We used a paper “rope” to section off the area. We set up a table with an antique chip bag holder, some fun movie paraphernalia, MOVIE marquee letters and a concession stand out of an old Planter’s Peanut display. We borrowed a popcorn machine and lucked out with the most beautiful cake ever… with over 80 hand formed fondant popcorn kernels! The kids loved eating it!
I had located a large red movie theater container from Crate and Barrel and immediately new it was perfect for a “popcorn” floral arrangement. I used white carnations and sprayed them with yellow floral paint. I also had someone make vinyl letters and dots to simulate a marquee type look on our containers.
The movie ticket and popcorn bucket cookies were stunning and the cupcake toppers were adorable with a movie clapper, ticket and letter “G” in a marquee style. We used Dollar Store popcorn containers and spruced them up with a party circle and shredded yellow/white paper to simulate popcorn. The kids enjoyed themselves and Georgia gave every guest 10 tickets and every 20 minutes they would pause the movie for her to “Pick a Prize.” If she chose your ticket from the bowl, that guest won a gift.
Truly, this was one of the easiest parties I’ve ever pulled together and one Georgia’s friends still talk about!”
