It's Fun Being One Party
"I originally planned this party with a "groovy one" theme in mind, but I knew I wanted something more than that - something a little more original with my own creative spin on it.
After searching high and low on Pinterest for party themes to match my vision, I just couldn't quit find what I was lokking for. "One is Fun" was to colorful and everything groovy and retro was overdone and not playful enough.
Thus the creation of "It's Fun Being One" was born! And I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out.
If you're looking for a playful, girly, retro themed first birthday for your girl this is the theme for you!
My vision was always pink and peach but I ended up adding in pops of orange, yellow, and gold. And of course there were disco balls.
If it had a smiley face or a daisy on it, I wanted it for this party!
Because we were having a small party and I didn't want to spend a ton of money, I DIY-ed a lot! Which is kind of my speciality.
I made the 2 arch backdrops with sheets of 1/2 inch plywood, paint, and a lot of painters tape. I created the custom vinyl decal in Canva then got Red Eye Designs to print it out for me and the small daisies came from Amazon for just $10!
The balloons were a custom garland from Bashify and I highly recommend using them for your event - the balloons are such high quality and they have great tutorials showcasing how to do everything.
I even made my own cookies, because I haven't been able to find a cookie maker nearby that can make dye-free cookies. It's definitely challenging at first but once you get the hand of it, decorating with royal icing is so much fun!
All of the party printables, signage, and coloring sheets came from my Etsy shop. Such an inexpensive way to add a custom tough to your party.
One of my favorite DIY's I take on for almost every party I've done is a fringe backdrop. It's a simple way to add a whimsical touch to your party for just a few dollars! You can also buy them pre-made on Etsy if you are short on time.
And last but certainly not least the groovy goodies I used for party favors were mostly all products from Hobby Lobby that I customized to fit the party theme. You can watch the tutorial on creating them here.
All in all, this design definitely made my retro party dreams come true and was such a great way to celebrate my baby turning 1 year old!
I was able to pull off my Pinterest worthy party for just a few hundred dollars and a little bit of sweat equity. You don't have to spend an arm and a leg on a birthday party to get the wow factor you're searching for.
And for any of you mama's who want to tackle these DIY's to save on your next kids party - YOU CAN DO IT!" - Sydney Johnson | A Party That Pops
