My amazing & talented assistant, Amber Pugmire recently threw her daughter a NEON GLOW IN THE DARK THEMED BIRTHDAY PARTY and I’m just dying to share it with you today! All I can say is- WOW, this party is so COOL!! There are so many darling details and ideas that you won’t want to miss!

    Awesome party!! I did a Glow in the Dark Bunco Party for my daughter’s birthday a couple of years ago (not as elaborate as yours but the girls had a blast). What did you use to get the cotton candy cones to glow, a glow bracelet?

      For the backdrop, we hung up a simple black bed sheet. Then we covered it with dozens of paper rosette fans made from neon cardstock and hot glue!

      For the cotton candy, I put glow in the dark bracelets inside paper cotton candy cone holders and then filled the cones with white cotton candy. So simple! Once the black lights were on, the cotton candy glowed!

    For everything to glow did you just change out the normal lightbulbs in your house with black light ones or did you rent a big black light to shine every where?

      I replaced all of the lightbulbs on the main floor of my house (where we held the party) with black light bulbs. There were probably around 15 or so. I also bought one long, mountable black light that I hung above the main table.

      I separated plain white frosting into different bowls and the dyed each one a different color using Wilton neon food coloring. Then I layered the colored frostings with vanilla wafer cookies (one scoop of frosting to two cookies) until I filled the push pop containers.

      I made them using neon colored card stock and a glue gun. There are tons of tutorials online. Otherwise, there are several shops on Etsy that sell them already made (and in the colors of your choice). I hope that helps!

      We just used the neon and glow-in-the-dark craft paint shown in the photos above for the face painting. I found it at Walmart but I’m sure it would be available in most stores that carry craft supplies.

    What all did you use to make the hulahoop chandelier? Is it just party streamers?

      To the hula hoop I tied strips of ribbon, crepe paper streamers, poster board with circles punched out, tissue paper fringe, and nylon surveyor tape (available at home depot in various neon colors).

      I had the theme in mind for about a year so I bought things a little at a time over that period. Because of that, I’m not sure how much I spent in total but if I had to guess I would say around $800 (including the lights, food, favors, disco ball, activities, decorations, cake, etc.).

    Hi! This party came out amazing :) I have been planning on a neon party for my son’s 10th a few months now, but my only concern is the black light itself. Would you mind telling me what you used for black lights ? I know there are florescent style bulbs and then I see large DJ type equipment (but those lights are very $$$$). I’m just trying to figure out how many lights I would need. Thanks so much

      I hung a black bed sheet on the wall and then I pinned up dozens of paper pinwheels (simply made with neon colored card stock and a glue gun). There are tons of tutorials online for how to make the paper pinwheel fans. Good luck!

      Hi Jamie! I used neon card stock to make the paper fans. I accented them with gold paper doilies and neon washi tape. There are tutorials for making the fans online or you can buy them already made on Etsy. I hope that helps!
