Sharks vs. Mermaids Under the Sea Party
Sharks vs. Mermaids Under the Sea Party Details:
This is what Annalise shared about the party-
I always try to match the party theme to my children’s interests and favourite things, so after lots of consideration we decided on a ‘Sharks Vs Mermaids’ Under the Sea Theme to celebrate Benjamin’s 5th and Charlotte’s 3rd Birthday Party. We choose to combine their parties as they are only born six weeks apart in the year, and it allows us to make the party extra special and invite all of our friends and family to celebrate together!
To begin the party planning, I first created the perfect invitation, with watercolour shells and sea animals, a gold foil shark and mermaid, coral patterns and beautiful fonts.
After the invitation was created, it decided the colour theme of gold, purples, blues and teals for the party. I created all the matching stationery, which included a printed backdrop, chocolate bar favours, drink labels, party bag stickers, buffet labels, favour tags and various signs.
Decorations & Styling
The dessert table was the focal point of the decorations and looked amazing framed by the beautiful balloon garland created by Lovely Occasions. We used a beautiful teal sequinned fabric from Spotlight for the tablecloth and gold stands to display the desserts.
Other decorations included some handmade jellyfish which we hung behind the giant gold clam shell photo booth station, giant balloons filled with confetti, and various matching signs with sea puns.
One of the things I have the most fun with in party planning is coming up with food ideas to match the theme, and this was really easy to do with our Under the Sea theme.
The sweet foods we served included: white chocolate sea shells, pearl of the sea macarons, shark infested jelly cups, magic mermaid cheesecake cups, dinglehopper cake pops, vanilla starfish cookies by Liz’s Cookie Jar, personalised chocolate bars and the incredible two tiered chocolate mudcake made by Sugarbug Cakes and Cookies.
The savoury food choices were: starwiches, crabby croissants, mini quiche abalone, octopus frankfurts, a sushi tray, coral reef twisties, sea salted popcorn, driftwood pretzels and prawn crackers.
We had a variety of activities and games all set out that the kids could busy themselves during the party. We chose not to do organised games as there was a lot of kids invited and it would have been difficult logistically!
The activities kids could do included a “Shellfie Station” Clam Shell Photo Booth with a variety of ocean themed props including gorgeous handmade shark and mermaid tails from The Wacky Wardrobe and sequined crowns from Schooza, a make your own Mermaid/Shark Necklace station with beads from Petite Bubblegum Bling, bean bag toss and ring toss lawn games from Lovely Occasions and a giant ocean colouring in poster from Kmart. There was also a big playground at the hall which was the clear favourite with all the kids!
Guests took home a party bag containing a bubble wand, chocolate bar, treat tube, and a few other ocean themed sweets and toys.
Charlotte and I wore matching Mummy-Daughter mermaid skirts which was lots of fun! Benjamin had a excellent time chasing his friends around in his Shark dress up costume. My husband looked great dressed up as a lifeguard.
I loved every minute of planning this party! It’s such a fun and easy theme to work with. All the party guests enjoyed their time at our Ocean inspired event! Benjamin and Charlotte had the best day ever and are already asking what their next party will be!”
