My son Kaden absolutely loves ROCKS. Ever since he was tiny he loved reading books about rocks, watching shows about rocks, and listening to his Grandma talk about rocks (my mom is a geologist). In preschool he even told his class he was going to be a paleontologist + geologist when he grew up :]. So for his 7th birthday party he wanted a…
GEOLOGIST + GEOLOGY + ROCK THEMED BIRTHDAY PARTY!
I have definitely never styled a party quite like this, but had so much fun and am happy with how everything turned out!
Items and supplies used in this rock / geology party available in Kara’s Party Shop:
Clear Glass Parfait Glasses Wooden Scoops Mini Plastic Dinosaurs Clear Round Plastic Favor Dishes Striped Mini Popcorn Boxes Stand Up Mini Chalk Boards Clear Candy Necklace Tubes Brown Gable Boxes Gray Stripe Washi Tape Jute Twine Brown Striped Favor Bags Mini Jars with Cork Lids Brown Striped Square Plates Red Striped Wooden Forks Daisy Cut Mason Jar Lids Birch Wood Paper Straws Rock Candy Sticks5 lb Bags of Rock Candy (for the cake) Burlap Bags
The wreath was made with coffee filters (painted with spray paint after glued onto wreath form), plastic dinosaurs, a bag of rocks, and a mini pennant banner that I made with jute twine, brown card stock and staples.
I made mini brownie volcano bites out of brownie pops and yellow and red candy melt.
I wanted the invitation to look like a rock chart. Instead of the rocks actual names I typed out the party information. A small mesh bag filled with rocks was stapled onto the front of the invitation for added charm. A miniature magnifying glass was also tied onto the invitation…enlarging the word “PARTY”.
Clear plastic round favor dishes from the shop were filled with edible chocolate rocks.
I purchased a fun Minerals poster for the party table backdrop on etsy and browned it up a bit with spray stain.

Melted Wilton Chocolate Candy Melts
Fun clear candy necklace tubes from the shop were filled with more edible chocolate rocks.
Plastic dinosaurs were buried in a galvanized tub filled with sand. Wooden scoops from the shop were the perfect tool to use to dig for fossils. The mini chalk board sign is also from Kara’s Party Shop.
The kids broke open Geode’s (purchased from Oriental Trading) as one of the party activities!
Follow the recipe below to make easy ROCK COOKIES!
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
2 and 1/4 cups of flour
1/4 teaspoon of salt
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix all the ingredients together until the dough is well incorporated. Form into rock shaped cookies with clean hands (makes about eight 3-4 cookies).
Bake on a greased cookie sheet for 10 minutes or until they begin to brown. Remove from the oven and cool completely.
Combine 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon milk, 1 drop of black food coloring, and a tiny drop of green food coloring together until you have reached your desired color and consistency…add more powdered sugar or milk if needed. Using a basting brush, paint glaze onto cooled cookies until evenly spread.
I made Geological Layer Cakes out of chocolate candy rocks, crushed oreo’s, chocolate cake, crushed shortbread cookies and green frosting, all layered in cute jars.
The kids put their geode pieces in cute brown striped favor bags from the shop.
Mini glass jars with cork lids from the shop were filled with more candy rocks.
The kids went on a rock hunt….and tried to match the rocks as close as possible to the rocks on the cards I gave them.
The kids came inside to watch a fun youtube video about the rock process.
Like I said earlier, my mom is a geologist. She came and gave an awesome presentation on the volcano eruption process! The kids LOVED it!…
Happy 7th birthday sweet Kaden!!!
