Vintage Amusement Party Party Details:
This is what Dolores said about planning the party- “Birthdays are a celebration where time past meets the excitement of what next year will bring. This 5th Birthday party for my daughter Mia was a sentimental day for me as we held it at the same special place I had my 5th birthday party in 1976.
Venue:
San Antonio, TX is proud to be the home of Kiddie Park, est. 1925 it’s is known as “America’s Oldest Childrens Amusement Park”. Kiddie Park has preserved its 1920s style by maintaining all of the original rides and strictly adhering to the original scheme. The park is a vintage wonderland where the kids forgot all about modern electronics and immersed themselves in the simpler joys of the mini crank cars, tilt a whirl, hand-carved 1918 Herschell Spillman carousel, mini boat rides, ferris wheel, and carnival games.
Theme & Details:
The Vintage Amusement Park theme was really fun putting together. I found some awesome Admit One ticket invitations at Splashbox. The color scheme I selected was an eclectic bright tutti frutti sample of orange, pink, blue and yellow. I worked with Frosting & Ink to customize a collection of fun vintage carnival party printables. I wanted Mia to have a keepsake from the party, so I used some of the printable papers to decoupage a 15″ laser cut carousel horse that I painted and glued to a wood pole which served a fun accent piece. For the sweets table I ordered a custom chalkboard birthday sign from Fly on the Wall Ink that listed all her zany little favorite things. Also we had a pink carousel horse piñata that the children destroyed with glee.
Sweets & Carnival Food:
We served vanilla creme cupcakes with an carousel horse iced cookie topper, meringues, a collection of amazing iced sugar cookies, big whirly pops, sea salt brownie bites, Meyer lemon wafers, and other treats. The food was typical Amusement Park fare, hotdogs, popcorn, pink lemonade and big old fashioned fresh cotton candy on a stick.
Favor Box:
The favor box was clear because I wanted all the fun colorful pieces to be seen: custom made carousel horse crayon, sheet of vintage Dover carousel animal tattoos, tube of jumbo gumballs, iced sugar cookie, pixie stick, tutti frutti sixlets, pencils, stamps and a lip whistle.
Memories:
My daughter and her friends had as much wild, loud fun as I remembered having in 1976. I have included a picture showing both of our 5th Birthday parties at Kiddie Park, me in 1976 and my daughter in 2013. Glad to see that that good old fashioned fun never goes out of style”.
