I’m SO excited about this month’s Michaels Makers challenge- a DIY halloween costume! I love halloween, and love coming up with fun and creative costumes. This time I decided to create a DIY VINTAGE SACAGAWEA INDIAN COSTUME. The entire costume is no sew and can be easily recreated!
Check out Michaels Halloween Market lookbook or Halloween Pinterest board for some project favorites, including costumes, personalized pumpkins, porch décor and more!

Items purchased from Michaels:
Leather cording
Wooden Beads
Turquoise Beads
Feathers
Cream Linen Fabric
Ribbon
Raw Bar Burlap Bag
Arm Cuffs / Bracelet Cuffs
The dress was super simple to make and looked adorable! All you need is a square piece of linen or cotton fabric, in the color of your choice and some scissors! Follow the instructions below to make the DIY indian costume dress…
The belt was made by braiding 6 long strands of leather cording together and tying off the ends, allowing the remaining cording to hang free. Beads and feathers were then threaded and hot glued onto the lose strands.
The headpiece was also super easy to make. I hot glued layers of various feathers to some light gathered burlap ribbon and finished it off with some adorable indian-inspired beads (everything was from Michaels).
And since the costume is for Halloween, you can’t forget about the trick-or-treating bag! This darling bag was made with a Raw Bar burlap bag and ribbon (all from Michaels). The burlap gathered ribbon was cut into strips and hot glued onto the burlap bag in a arrow chevron pattern.
The arm bracelet was simply made with a metal bracelet cuff and turquoise arrow beads (again, all from Michaels).
Make the necklaces by stringing various turquoise, red and silver beads.

This will help me with my famous person
Please tell me you and your family are of First Nation / Indigenous descent and that you are not dressing her up in regalia with a feather head dress for FUN as a cute costume. Check out : http://www.ohio.edu/orgs/stars/Poster_Campaign.html

This is cultural appropriation. Do you have any idea what white people did to Native Americans? I’m sorry, but that’s not okay. Please, please, don’t do that. (If you don’t understand why, then kindly look it up online).
This is adorable!!!! I am having a very hard time finding Linen material in the 96×96 measurement. Did you use cotton or linen for this costume? Desperately searching as Halloween is only a few short weeks away!
This is horribly inappropriate & disrespectful on so many levels!
