Construction Party Details:This is what Melinda said about planning the party-
“We chatted around a few themes and at one point Ben said he wanted a Mickey Mouse Spiderman party, but knowing my freshly new 3 year old, he really isn’t into superheroes and mickey mouse. Ben loves tools. And fixing things and been outside with the garden hose.
So I suggested a tool party and he was sold. Of course I had a look at Kara’s Party Ideas for some inspiration and found exactly what I wanted for the birthday cake.
I spent hours at building stores, wandering around scrap yards and second hand shops to find everything I was looking for. The table was an old door and the trestle legs have seen better days, but they suited my purpose perfectly. The peg board was also picked up at a scrapyard. All other props, like the plastic tools and wheelbarrow belong to Ben.
For themed treats I had so much fun thinking of ideas, from the chocolate fountain which we labelled wet paint and the marshmallows on straws, aptly called ‘dipsticks’. We put cotton candy in brown bags and called it cement mix. Croinuts were dipped in icing and these were ‘spare wheels’ and flake chocolates were ‘wooden logs’. We also filled painter’s trays with red and blue sweets and called it paint.
The decor not only made the party look great, it also worked for playthings, from the spare wheels which cost me R10 ($1) to the brushes in the paint tray”.
