Hot Air Balloon Party Details:This is what Claudia said about the party-
“The idea for my party began by thinking of theme that could work for two occasions and one event: my son’s 2nd birthday and christening. I wanted light & airy feel to the decor and yet i wanted it to feel fun and appropriate for a 2 year old’s party!
So based on his love of balloons, and how they float into the sky, the idea being “one step closer to heaven” came to mind.
For this party I made most of the printables myself. This is the part I most enjoy. It all started with the invitations; I used Etsy artwork as base and then crafted them each by hand. The files I used were made by A littlehope designs, an Etsy store filled with cute printables. I used this particular one because it allowed me to craft the each part of the balloon with a different cardboard, which was my idea for the invitation.
In terms of the decoration I was fixed on making some hot air balloons myself. For the centerpieces I used:
– small baskets; found them at a local department store, in the gardening area.
– 10″ paper lanterns bought on amazon
– wooden rods, i bought mine in the hardware store but they can also be found in bakeries (for holding multiple tier cakes together)
– colored ribbons for the details about 10-15 yards of each color (get plenty! i bought rolls of 15 yards and by the end had almost none left!; ribbons were also used for the favors).
– crystal vases which i also found at a department store, these had to fit inside the basket, as the idea was to have hydrangea centerpiece.
– Tie wraps to hold the lanterns and the wooden rods together
It was so fun figuring out how to build the centerpieces and hopefully my final idea will be helpful for others!
I also made the party favors; for these i decided to go with Chinese favor boxes. Because these boxes had handles it was easy to do use the ribbons for the details. I designed a sticker which allowed to personalize each box for each invited kid!
The beautiful details of the cake we’re thanks to a local DR cake vendor called Lau’s Cookies; she also did the cookies. The set up for the cake table was arranged by my mom and I; we used some borrowed wood blocks from a close friend. WE also made the tags for the food on the buffet with some corks based on an idea we found on Pinterest. To make all we needed about 24 corks and some white ribbon.
The final touches for the decorations were given with some flag pennants bought at Oriental Trade and balloons to match the theme colors. For the gift area a huge #2 Mylar balloon tied to a big basket did the trick.
Because it was also the celebration of a christening, in order to add some formality we decided to rent tablecloths & table tops which I think added the final detail for the overall look I was going for.
We invited everyone over for a brunch party on a Saturday and both the kids and the adults had fun! Kid were entertained in a cool room (only one with air conditioner), which was a big plus given the Caribbean weather. In the room they had several kids tables and fun things to play with: blocks, animals, tea sets, crayons, play-dough
We had some cushions done for the occasion so we could all sit on the floors and watch a movie, and thats how we decided to end the day”!
