“My daughter has been planning her 5th birthday for a whole year. (She must get it from me) I introduced her to Pinterest– BIG mistake. She has her next 10 parties planned as well as her next 10 Halloween costumes!
She decided that for her 5th birthday she would have a rainbow unicorn party; I wanted pink and gold unicorns…you can see who won that argument! I also have two boys so I ran with all of the girliness I could fit into this party.
I started with the invitations and went from there. Since I bake specialty cakes part time, I really wanted her cake to wow the guests. So I decided on a standing unicorn. Lucky for me I found a class on Craftsy to help with this pursuit. Even though I had a small disaster while putting the cake together I was able to pull it off. The looks on all of the little girls faces was well worth it! My daughter also requested unicorn cakepops. As a baker I can tell you that I do not like making cakepops at all. But when your daughter looks up at you under her sweet little eyelashes and says “Please with a cherry on top” , well you know I no longer had a choice. After I made the unicorn cakepops, I decided to use the left over rainbow sour straps to make some simple marshmallow cloud rainbows.
Behind This fabulous cake table I knew I had to have a cute backdrop. I found the blue satin fabric on sale for $1.00! Lucky me. I cut out a few felt clouds to go along with the look of the cake walking over the rainbow in the clouds. I actually made the the table cloth from cut up plastic table covers. I came across a tutorial on how to make ruffle streamers with plastic table cloths and decided to use that to make the ruffled rainbow and clouds. I think it came out cute but it was very time consuming. I also made the felt clouds with raining hearts above the table. That was very easy. I hot glued the white felt clouds and hearts I cut out and stuffed them with stuffing I cut out of an old pillow. I took some blue thread and sewed around the edges. then I used invisible thread to hang them from the ceiling to appear as though it was raining magical rainbow hearts. My daughter loved those so much that they now hang in her room above her bed!
We also had magical unicorn rides! I can not believe how excited the girls were to see the ponies. While the girls waited for their turn they got to hang out under the pink party tent and make rainbow sand art heart necklaces, rainbow bead bracelets, and their very own unicorn horn!
A unicorn pinata finished off our magical party with lots of treats to take home and enjoy!”
