Party Inspiration & Decor:
“My mini paleontologist has become quite the expert on all things dinosaur. So, we were so excited to plan a modern take on these prehistoric creatures that he has grown to love. The idea for the party started when we found some wooden dinosaur puzzles in the dollar bin at Target. It inspired us to go online and find all of my son’s favorite dinosaurs and begin planning the party around dinosaur skeletons and fossils. Next, we created a party backdrop with fossils on it to match the wooden dinosaurs we had found. We even made fun little party hats for them to wear! Another project was to make little dinosaur planters filled with faux succulents that we cut up and spray painted to match the party colors.
The main feature of the party was a ‘Dino Dig’. It included dinosaur skeletons, amber beads, gems and shells, all of which the kids got to keep in their excavation kits, so they doubled as party favors. We also had a dinosaur egg hunt, where the kids got to roam the park searching for dinosaur eggs filled with little plastic dinos, tattoos and rings. Finally, there were dinosaur tails and masks for the kids to wear while they ran around on the park pretending to be dinosaurs.
Food & Cake:
For food, the carnivores ate dino-shaped chicken nuggets and sandwiches, while the herbivores munched on fruit salad and sides. The desert table featured a cake with ‘mud’ oozing down the side and realistic-looking chocolate boulders on top. Other treats were chocolate pudding cups layered to look like the earth, dinosaur gummies, and Therapod footprint cookies.
The kids all had a great time, and I had so much fun working on the party crafts with my son. In the end, my son said it was the best day of his life, so I call that a win.”
