“Time Flies” Vintage Airplane 1st Birthday Party
“Time Flies” Vintage Airplane Party Details:
This is what Danielle shared about the party- “Our sweet little Charlie turned ONE and we couldn’t wait to celebrate the occasion with family and friends. We chose a vintage airplane theme because we couldn’t believe just how quickly the year flew by (this was also special to us because Charlie’s late great grandfather built airplanes). I (Charlie’s mom) had so much fun planning every detail of this party, and am so thankful that family and friends helped to pull everything off!
One of my favorite party details was the vintage airplane pulling a homemade “happy birthday Charlie” sign. We couldn’t attach anything to the walls of the event space we rented, so we made the wooden backdrop and attached the airplane and added batting for clouds. Also on the mantel we decorated with special treasures from Charlie’s first year: his first hand/foot prints; first bible; infant silhouette; pewter baby cup, and other special momentos. We added vintage suitcases that we borrowed from family friends to tie in the theme.
Dessert Table and Decor
The dessert table was filled with delicious sweets and treats. For the backdrop, we framed a vintage world map poster and used a vintage blue suitcase for the cake stand. Guests enjoyed chocolate covered pretzels, French vanilla cake and cupcakes, and airplane cookies (my favorite and almost too cute to eat!)
The tables were decorated with chambray tablecloths (from Target!) and a blue and white stripe runner. The centerpieces incorporated hydrangeas in a galvanized metal bucket with a small meta airplane and Charlie’s one year birthday photos. I mounted the birthday pictures on gingham banner pennants I found at Target and secured them together with ribbon to form a stand for each photo.
We had several kids celebrating with us so I wanted a few fun activities for them to enjoy. Kids decorated white cardboard “suitcases” with vintage travel stickers that I found on Amazon. This was a huge hit for kids of all ages! We also had a paper runway set up outside and foam airplanes for the kids to put together and see who could throw their airplane the furthest. The weather was beautiful on the day of the party and guests of all ages loved building and throwing their own airplane!
Charlie’s great grandfather brought his smash cake and he dug right into it as soon as we sat it down in front of him! He loved his first tastes of icing and cake…until the moment he rubbed two fist-fulls of icing all over his hair! Then crying ensued. There was so much icing in his hair that we had to wash his hair in the bathroom sink, haha! It was quite the memorable experience.
All in all, we loved planning and putting together this party to celebrate Charlie’s first birthday! It was such a blast.”
