This is what Megan shared about styling the party- “On Saturday I got to style the most amazing party for my favourite twins, as Bunting + Blooms. I had a little carte blanche in picking a gender-neutral theme as it was for a girl/boy set of twins, and luckily after showing them the mood board, they were sold on the idea I had come up with! I hope this theme brings you some fabulous inspiration for enquiring little minds!
I loved that I could incorporate colours that both the twins would like. Especially with some bright colours that could pop! You can really go to town with this theme. It was such a great theme for this age group – 9.
Luckily the family’s home is absolutely perfect for entertainment with a huge undercover patio for setup. Plus, a massive garden to allow the kids to run around, picnic, swim. They even have enough space for a Science Lab!
I got the fabulous team from Little Scientists in to run two experiments with the kids. Make Your Own Slime, and Make Your Own Fruit Juice Slushie! The kids absolutely loved this hour with the Little Scientist. They also loved the tub of slime they made that doubled as an additional take-home gift. The team brings in all of their own equipment – from tables and little lab coats, to gloves, goggles, protective sleeves, and all the Science ‘ingredients’ to make your party one of a kind!
Décor & Candy table:
The base of my theme revolved around the fabulous design pack I got from Sunshine Parties, and everything was buildable from there. I wanted to recreate a ‘lab’ feel, through the use of science equipment. I used glass beakers and Erlenmeyer flasks instead of apothecary jars, clipboards as serving trays and little measuring beakers as jelly cups.
I created height and interest with old books. I served sweets in plastic light bulbs and Petri dishes. The sweets were all specifically chosen for their colours or shapes to fit in with the theme. The ‘Dissection Frogs’ served with plastic tongs as one of my favourites. Food labels named the candy treats with various science terminologies like Protons, Candy Isotopes, Atomic Specimens, Nuclear Waste and Plasma Balls to name but a few, which had the kids in hysterics as they wondered what would happen as they sampled each one.
Incredible Sugar Cookies from Sugar and Paper tied the theme in perfectly with the kids scrambling to get their hands on one of her edible pieces of art – her icing skills are second to none! I filled clear bubble balloons at my local party/everything store, The Variety Shop, with aptly coloured miniature polystyrene balls to emulate the bubbles of a science experiment, which I think turned out really well! The kids were absolutely mesmerized by them!
Kelly Jayne’s Cakes blew us all away again, as she always does, with her two-tiered masterpiece, adorned with the sweetest twin scientists atop. The green ‘slime’ drip had the kids oohing and aahing and the vanilla sponge sandwiched between oozing purple and green filing was some of the best I’ve ever had!
Take home gifts:
Besides for their slime they had made with Little Scientists, each child took home a plastic test tube filled with rainbow-coloured skittles to make their own 3 Step Skittles Experiment at home. They also go to take home their own Laboratory Access personalised name pass on a lanyard, and got to fill a candy packet with sweets from the table which proved to be such a hit with the kids.
The inimitable Corinna Tannian was there to capture all the fun and special moments, an absolute must to add on to your party package. Remember, if you book through Bunting + Blooms, you can get a special party package rate!
I had an absolute ball with this theme, with the twins proclaiming it was the best party they’ve ever had – all the thanks I needed!”
