Cars Drive-Up + Art Walk Quarantine Birthday Party
This is what Cynthia shared about planning/styling the party:
“We made the most of my son’s birthday party, even though we had to shift gears for regulations due to Covid-19. The theme “life is a highway” was based on my son’s favorite Cars movie and his buddies, Lightning McQueen and Mater. With my daughter’s Monsters Inc. quarantine birthday party as practice, and being an event planner, I was up for another challenge. Plus, since my kiddos are regulars at the Disney parks, I figured bringing the parks home to them was mandatory.
With the help of the same vendors from my daughter’s party, and some new ones, we were able to execute a stellar celebration. A lot of thought and detail went into this Cars birthday party to ensure it was as one-of-a-kind as possible. I also wanted it to be special for the guests who came to wish my son a happy birthday. After all, they deserved to be spoiled for going to the effort of coming our way, especially during quarantine.
I wanted the signage and paper decor to be personalized to reflect the uniqueness of the birthday boy. We included license plates of states he has visited, interstate and Highway signs to reflect his name and his age, and a lot of Piston Cups to display everywhere. We also had a banner that commemorated his “4th lap around the sun”. All of the signage was created by a dear long-time friend who I consider family, Nadine Guzman.
Art Walk + Party Activities:
As each family arrived, they were greeted with the Cars movie soundtrack playing in the background. The first stop on the art walk was a personalized version of the tire art installation that you can normally see in front of Luigi’s Tires at California Adventure’s Cars Land. The tire installation was executed by Eva at The Party Details who captured the concept perfectly. It included phrases and titles from the movie such as “find yourself” (which is a song on the soundtrack), KA-CHOW, and vroom vroom.
The next stop was a Cars Land inspired mural by Janessa Gautier. Janessa did not disappoint with her spin on Cars Land. She even added VW Bugs, which were one of my favorite touches from the “wheel well” scene. Such talent for a High School Student!
Finally, there were cones leading guests to the finish line where the pit crew awaited. A confetti cannon went off as guests celebrated their victory and waved to the birthday boy who looked on from his window.
Before guests left, they helped themselves to individually wrapped treats. There were “tire” Oreos for the kids and beers for the adults to enjoy at home. Most guests had masks on and took them off for photo purposes. Social distancing was strictly enforced. We did the art walk and took photos as a family prior to the guests arriving, and the birthday boy loved it!
Cake + Vendors:
Diana, from Sugar Kiss Baking Co, outdid herself AGAIN with the cake. When she asked what I wanted, I told her the theme was “life is a highway” and she really road tripped out of the state with her details. For the base of the cake, best buds Mater and Lightning were surrounded by a road. Diana then added a rock arch, cactus detail, dirt, and even cones to bring the scene to life. If you can believe it, the cake tasted even better than it looked!
The vendor “quaranteam” killed it, even with only a few weeks to pull everything off. It was hard condensing our original concepts from a large scale down to a smaller event. With the help of Offer Up (free tires and cones), Home Depot (paints and tape) and the team, it was a fun-filled quarantine birthday party that we won’t ever forget. Thank you to Anthu Photography for capturing it.”
