Calling all almost engaged couples! Today, March 20, is National Proposal Day!

National Proposal Day is a time to *encourage* and recognize marriage proposals across the globe. While the exact history of this ‘holiday’ is unknown, National Proposal Day coincides with the Spring Equinox, also known as the first day of spring, which is a time for new beginnings. March 20 is one of only two days each year when day and night are equally as long as each other, so the equinox symbolizes two equal efforts — what any successful marriage should be!

In honor of this day, I am excited to partner with LovBe to give you a leg up on choosing the best diamond to present to your loved one when you propose.

So, you’ve found the perfect partner and are ready to make it official.

What are the steps in planning your proposal?

1- Figure Out What to Say

This is one of the most important moments of your and your partner’s life. Follow the old adage that practice makes perfect and think about what you want to say ahead of time. Authenticity is key… as is remembering to actually ask those four magic words! Hint: “Will you marry me?”

More Tips:

  • Sound Like Yourself – You do not want to sound robotic or overly rehearsed (no reading off cards!)
  • Go with the Flow – Emotions may run high, meaning a ton of tears. Don’t forget the tissues!
  • Why Me? – Include what you love most about your partner and why you want to spend forever with them.
  • Set Future Plans – What do you foresee your life together to be like?

2- Decide Where to Propose

While the options may be limited this year due to the current global travel restrictions, it just means you may need to get a bit more creative. How about recreating aspects of favorite foreign destinations in a local park or even virtually in your living room?

Other options to consider are:

  • Location where you first met
  • Place of your first date or first kiss
  • Somewhere romantic… like a local beach or waterfront at sunrise or sunset

Now that you know what you are going to say, where you’re going to do it, and where to get the BEST ring to propose with, you are officially engagement-ready! So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to KNEEL in the name of love. Fun fact (from National Today): In the 1800’s, men in Europe and the U.S. started the tradition of kneeling when proposing fashioned after the gesture of medieval knights.
