Spidey Spider-Man Party

Party Details:

“On Penny’s first visit to the Avenger’s Campus at California Adventure, she saw animatronic Spiderman fly through the sky, and she said to us, “I sure do love that Spiderman.” Ever since, Penny’s most favorite character in all the world has been Spiderman. To celebrate her love of the web-slinging hero, we knew we wanted to go all out Spidey for Penny’s 5th birthday party. The theme has been done, and done well, in so many ways, so it was no small task to think of how we could do it a bit differently in a way that would be special to Penny. When thinking through the design, I wanted to use softer, more muted versions of the typical color palette, and incorporate as much black and white as possible to give a more sophisticated feel. I also wanted to include foam cut-outs of the characters from Penny’s favorite TV show, Spidey and his Amazing Friends, since I knew that seeing her favorite TV buddies would be very special to her. Our theme, “Penny and her Amazing Friends,” included all of the above. The Pop Shop provided balloon garlands and a balloon wall in shades of coral, powder blue, lemon yellow, and black, which donned a giant spiderweb on our front lawn, and stood as a backdrop for a large wooden web and spider on our back porch area. We incorporated many DIY elements into the party by creating a skyscraper mural along the walls of our front room using building decals and using black and white artist’s tape to create spiderwebs on the walls and dessert table. To accent our mural, Chelcea Creative created foam board cut-out characters of Spidey, Spin, and Ghost Spider, clouds, word bubbles, and a giant sun, and designed an epic “Go Webs Go” sign for our wall. Staying with the black and white theme, MV Florals provided arrangements of gorgeous white anemones with pops of coral for the kids tables and dessert table, which perfectly accented our black and white tabletop with Meri Meri’s poppy-striped plates and cups. To keep the kiddos busy, Camp Lila created a Spidey painting activity where the kids chose a version of their favorite Spidey character to put to paper and paint. The kids enjoyed Spidey-themed treats like cookies, cupcakes, and a gorgeous cake by Sheila Mae, red and blue cotton candy with edible Spidey wafers from Bon Puf, and Spidey ice cream bars from Paleta Please. Finally, no Spidey party is complete without a visit from the hero himself! Both Spiderman and Spin made an appearance and led the littles through an obstacle course that was a huge hit! It was a celebration that Penny and her Amazing Friends will never forget!” – Kristen Dimond
