Dr. Seuss Party Details:This is what Stephanie said about planning/styling the party-
“I decided to attempt my very first dessert table for my son Sawyer’s first birthday party. Sawyer was given some Dr. Seuss book sets for Christmas and had always been drawn to the colours of the Cat in the Hat tv show, which is why I chose to go with that theme. During a family vacation to Florida, I took a lot of inspiration from Seuss Landing at Universal Studios Orlando and wanted to incorporate a lot of the bright, bold colours and fun shapes associated with Dr. Seuss. This was quite the challenge since I had to make sure that the colours still complemented each other and the different patterns didn’t clash.
The table styling and desserts were all done by me. This included a mini smash cake (Vanilla bean cake with strawberry buttercream), vanilla bean marshmallows, a 3D green eggs and ham cake (Vanilla bean cake and Dutch chocolate cake with dark chocolate buttercream), vanilla sugar cookies, chocolate dipped pretzels, red velvet cake pops, and chocolate vegan cupcakes. I stacked some Dr. Seuss books on a pedestal cake stand to give more height to the smash cake and to tie in with the theme. I used a striped plastic table cloth as the table backdrop. I created the food tent cards and cotton candy labels by scanning images from Dr. Seuss books and editing them on Photoshop. I made the cupcake wraps by printing a template on different coloured card stock, cutting it out and wrapping it around each individual cupcake.
My husband and I set up a photo booth area where our guests could take a polaroid picture with a large size cut out of the Cat in the Hat that my husband had mounted on a wooden stand. My husband also made a bunch of truffula trees using tissue poms attached to black pipe insulation in two different thicknesses and supported by pvc pipe. He then drilled holes in plywood bases for each one that the pipes fit into so the trees would be free standing. We scattered these around the house so that there was a few in every room”.
