As a toast to some of the last Michaels Makers posts of the season, I created gifts, baked treats and threw parties for each of the six holidays this summer. This post showcases the “CELEBRATE MOM” DIY MOTHER’S DAY WATERCOLOR WALL CANVAS GIFT I made for Michaels!
Michaels is celebrating every occasion this summer with gifts for Moms, Dads and teachers, along with parties to celebrate birthdays, graduation, and the 4th of July!
So without further adieu, here is my ‘CELEBRATE MOM’ DIY Mother’s Day Watercolor wall canvas tutorial!
Items needed from Michaels:
Blank Canvas
Watercolors
Vinyl Letters / Phrase
White Paint
Step 1: Get your canvas wet so that the watercolor will spread nicely. I ran my canvas under the tap for a few seconds.
Step 2: Paint your canvas with watercolors. Having a particular pattern isn’t necessary.
Step 3: Paint your entire canvas with watercolor paint, in as many colors as you desire, and allow to dry overnight.
Step 4: Position your vinyl letters / phrase where you would like them placed on your canvas and press the vinyl onto the canvas, making sure it’s stuck on well.
Step 5: Cover your entire canvas with white paint, adding a few coats until the canvas is completely white with no watercolor paint showing through.
Allow the white paint to dry, and peel away the vinyl lettering. Leaving a beautiful watercolor saying

This is so pretty Kara’s Party Ideas! I love the idea!
Where did you get the letters from?
Please tell me where you got those vinyl letters or what they are called! Searched everywhere for them! It’s the last piece I need and Mother’s Day is this Sunday pleeease!
Hello everyone! I found the letters at Michaels. They’re out of stock online though. I know this is very late, but better late than never.
They’re called- Hazel & Ruby® Stencil Mask, Chalk Art Alpha
