Bohemian Korean Dol 1st Birthday Details:
This is what Diana said about the party- “In Korean culture the baby’s 1st birthday is a huge celebratory event so we really wanted to make our daughter’s 1st birthday extra special. We chose to have the party at an adorable miniature horse ranch, Tiny Trotters Ranch, because, I mean, MINIATURE. HORSES. It was an easy sell. Because the party would be an outdoor party with animals, we wanted to stay within that realm and decided to keep the party feminine, sweet, but with little bohemian details.
Most of the decorations were DIY’s (thank you, Pinterest) that we worked on after our 2 kids went down for the night. It was hard work but the personal touch really made the party feel so special.
Our daughter’s cakes were all made by Whitnie of Paper Cake Events. In keeping with the soft, botanical, bohemian theme, we went with a large naked cake topped with seasonal flowers, a soft blush ombre smash cake, and the sweetest little mini cupcakes topped with gold leaf. Everything was just as delicious as it was beautiful to look at! I included lots of greenery and bits of delicate babies breath around the cakes arranged on natural wood crates on the dessert table to finish them off.
Because it wouldn’t be a Korean Dol without a Doljabi, I made it interesting for guests to participate in the tradition by making it a raffle game. During a doljabi, the child is presented with various objects that all represent a different path or skill that they may follow in their adult life. When the child chooses one of those objects, it is believed that he/she is predicting their future. To make this a game for our guests to participate in, we DIY’ed a little chalk board showing descriptions of the tradition as well as the objects that we chose to present to our daughter. The guests were then instructed to place a piece of paper with their name on it into the jar corresponding with the object that they thought our daughter would pick. It was a fun way to introduce our culture to our friends and family who may not be familiar with the tradition!
All of the children who came to the party really got a treat because they were able to go on miniature horse rides & pet some adorable little animals. The horses were all dressed up with lace and flowers on their saddles too so it was a really fun photo opportunity for all the parents as well.
Lastly, all of our photos were shot by Ashley Furtado of Ashley Furtado photography. She really did a wonderful job capturing a day that really flew by for us!”
