“One in a Melon” Watermelon Birthday Party
This is what Marissa shared about the party- “I own a small events and decor company in South Africa called, Konfetti Love. Twice a year I get to work on two of my favourite events – my daughters’ birthdays. This time around it was my youngest daughter, Stella’s birthday and she was turning 2.
Stella came into this world with a big bang and she is an absolute fire cracker so when I happened to pass a case of watermelons in a local super market one day, I noticed their lovely contrasting colours – the hard outside and the soft inside. It reminded me of my little Stella and instantly knew that I wanted to do a fresh watermelon themed birthday. We duped it, One in a Melon because she is an absolute one of a kind!
I wanted to keep it minimal, clean and crisp. The main colours were teal, watermelon pink, black and white. I used the black sparingly to represent the little pips inside a watermelon and varied the pink with either a darker or lighter shade. It added a bit of depth so that everything wasn’t too repetitive and the soft pale pinks toned the stark black and whites down just a tad bit.
We invited just a few friends and each friend got to paint their own canvas bag. It turned out to be quite messy for this age group, but a lot of fun!
Whenever I do a kids party, I normally try to cater for young and old alike. Therefore a macaron is my go to to keep the adults coming back to the table! My absolute favourite on this particular desert table has to be the watermelon macarons! They were deliciously tutti-fruitti and turned out fantastic! These compared with a few other matching sweet treats turned out to be a hit!”
