Next up in our hot chocolate recipe series is this delicious and toasty Easy S’Mores Hot Chocolate Recipe. Hailing memories of summertime fires and marshmallow roasts, this hot cocoa recipe was very popular with my nieces and nephews at our hot cocoa party. I’m pretty sure it had something to do with the dripping chocolate down the cups, although those drips are perfectly optional if you would rather keep the mess to a minimum.
Easy S’Mores Hot Chocolate Recipe
Yields: 8 servings
1 cup cocoa powder (I used dark chocolate)
1/2 cup chocolate syrup
12 cups milk
3/4 cup granulated sugar
A pinch of salt (optional)
Crushed graham crackers
2 cup of mini marshmallows
1/2 cup chocolate syrup (for topping)
Set top rack in your oven to the highest level. Preheat oven to low broil.
Pour milk into a large saucepan and warm for 5 minutes on medium heat. Add cocoa powder, chocolate syrup, salt, and sugar. Stir until combined. Warm for 2-3 additional minutes.
Take graham cracker crumbs and cover the bottom of each mug to your liking.
Pour hot chocolate mixture into mugs and top with mini marshmallows. Place mugs on baking sheet and carefully place baking sheet on top rack in oven. Allow marshmallows to toast for about 2-3 minutes. Watch to be certain the marshmallows do not burn.
Once marshmallows are golden brown carefully remove baking sheet from oven. Use caution as mugs will be very hot. Allow mugs to cool a bit before handling. Top mugs with syrup and sprinkled graham cracker crumbs if desired.
